Renovating a Victorian Style Bathroom

Having a kitchen or bathroom designed in a Victorian style creates a look that is timeless and classic. With its simple and clean design, it’s a look that never goes out of style and can be a great benefit when reselling your home.

One of our recent projects was to design a late Victorian style bathroom vanity. The clients wanted a simple look for their bathroom, and our designer Anna created a room focused on Wood-Mode products. For the cabinetry, a maple Springfield Recessed door style finished in an alpine white was installed. To continue the simplicity within the renovation, Wood-Mode’s glass knobs were added to the drawers and cabinets. Once the cabinets were installed, a steel gray granite countertop was added. Lastly, an under mount white Porcelain Sink, accented with Danze Opulence Brushed Nickel faucets, was installed to complete this classic Victorian style bathroom. Designing an Unique and Opulent Bathroom Vanity

The other day I was talking to Anna, one of our designers, and we were reminiscing about past projects. One of her favorite renovations involved designing a bathroom for a new home. The homeowners were working with Tralongo Builders in Schenectady, NY and wanted CCW to design a unique furniture piece with rich, ornate details for the master bathroom.

When creating a rich feel for a room, you should consider darker colors for the cabinets. The cabinetry in the bathroom was a cherry wood and stained with the color mocha. We enhanced the overall appeal of the piece with Louis Philippe Columns and Enkeboll Hand Carved mouldings for the Crest Top. To add a unique design for the cabinet doors, Anna recommended a Pelham Manor Raised Panel door style. Once the furniture piece was designed and installed, a Copper Canyon granite countertop was selected to match the colors of the painted walls and tiled floor. Lastly, an under mount Porcelain Sink was added with Delta Victorian Series faucet in a Oil Rubbed Bronze.

It was exciting to design this detailed furniture piece! Congratulations Anna on a wonderful design and achieving the look our clients wanted for their home!

Designing the Kitchen Backsplash: Part Two

Tile isn’t the only option for a kitchen backsplash.  Here are other inspirations to design a space that will fit your needs and style.

Granite

Create an accent wall by running the countertop material from the countertop to the ceiling.  If running the countertop material to the ceiling isn’t an option, consider running it 4 to 6 inches up the wall.

Bead Board

For an antique look in the kitchen, consider the bead board.  The vertical lines help add a traditional feel throughout the space.

Glass Painted

As a practical material for the home, this non-porous, non-staining backsplash provides a sleek and calm look within the kitchen.

Talking with your designer is the best way to discover a look that will fit your lifestyle and your kitchen.  Don’t forget to checkout our tile inspirations to help design the perfect and unique kitchen backsplash for your home.

Laundry Room Design

The average American family spends 8 hours per week in the laundry room.  In the past, laundry rooms were located in the most unwelcoming parts of the home, like the basement.  Today, homeowners have moved their washers and dryers closer to the kitchen.  Moving the location of the laundry room improved convenience for the entire family to toss their dirty towels and clothes into one accessible spot.  With the laundry room now on the main floor, it’s time to design a space that you won’t want to hide from your neighbors.

For this renovation, the laundry room needed to reflect the style of the home, while keeping it light and airy.  The original layout was in need of an upgrade as it didn’t provide the functionality needed in laundry rooms today.

Folding area and hanging rod for clothes

By adding a folding area and a hanging rod for clothes, the room provided additional storage to eliminate clutter.  These features also increased the room’s functionality and accommodated the homeowner’s need for convenience.

Brookhaven II Lewisburg recessed square inset cabinet doors finished with an Opaque Painted Lace

To match the Colonial style farmhouse, custom built Brookhaven II Lewisburg recessed square inset cabinet doors were installed. The doors were then finished in an Opaque Painted Lace, which truly brightened the room and gave a clean feeling throughout the space.  For the countertop, a granite Santa Cecilia was chosen.

Pull-Out Ironing Board

To save space and add function to the room, a pull-out ironing board was installed within the cabinets.

Deeper sink base and raised appliances

The laundry sink was set at a lower height to not disrupt the window as the original sink base did.  The washers and dryers were also raised off the floor to allow easier access into the machines and to protect the refinished pine floors that were installed.

Extra deep broom closet for storage

An extra deep broom closet was built to store the vacuum, brooms and step ladder that were kept out and about in the space before.

Home Design: Choosing the Perfect Kitchen Countertop

With the beginning of a new year, the designers and I decided it was time to update our Countertop Comparison Table.  We know that when customers consider a kitchen or bathroom renovation, they look for materials that will fit their home and lifestyle.  Countertop not only enhances the look of your cabinetry, but can also be an asset for your home.
